Metinvest Digital migrates the IT infrastructure of Metinvest Group to Microsoft Azure cloud platform

Metinvest Digital has finished the project of the migration of Metinvest Group IT infrastructure to the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

The company has migrated 680 servers from two Metinvest data centers, which were used for IT service provisioning, to the cloud. Of these, 85 terminal servers were transformed into PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) Windows Virtual Desktop for 2,000 users, which was an exceptional case in Ukraine. The primary objective of the migration was to improve the efficiency, reliability, and security of Metinvest IT infrastructure, as well as to make it more flexible and adaptable for the further implementation of digital transformation projects.

The project, conducted by Metinvest Digital in partnership with Infopulse and Microsoft, lasted for almost 12 months and has become one of the largest cloud migration projects in Ukraine. Last year, Metinvest Digital already migrated all IT assets of Metinvest Group in Europe and the USA to the cloud.

The transition to full use of cloud data centers is a new stage in the evolution of Metinvest Group’s IT strategy. Microsoft Azure technologies and solutions provide significant benefits for the company. Firstly, we gain the flexibility to scale computing resources and storage systems. We will be able to address the business requirements faster by deploying new systems and services. Secondly, high infrastructure availability and information security will reduce the risks of downtime and ensure business continuity across our enterprises. Thirdly, we’ll be able to reduce CAPEX/OPEX for infrastructure support. In a 10-year perspective, we will save more than $3 million from migration to the cloud. Additionally, advanced cloud infrastructure is fundamental both for enhancing the performance of our IT systems and for rapid adoption of Industry 4.0 innovations.
